You’ve likely noticed that all the plastics we use in our products are BPA-free. But, what does BPA-free mean? BPA has gotten a lot of attention in the last few years, but you might not be quite sure what it is or why it matters. We’ll be discussing what exactly BPA is, how it can affect you and your family and why it’s so important to look for BPA-free food storage containers. Keep reading to learn more.

What Is BPA?

Let’s start with the basics. BPA is an abbreviation for Bisphenol-A, which is an industrial chemical widely used to manufacture certain plastics and epoxy resins. It has been around since the 1960s and was once found in containers meant to store beverages and food. Historically, BPA has also been used to coat the insides of bottle tops and food cans. It’s even been used as a dental sealant or composite.

Unfortunately, BPA has been linked to a number of health problems. The safety of this chemical is often debated. However, studies indicate that it plays a role in the development of endocrine disorders, infertility, certain cancers and more. There are concerns that it affects hormones and interferes with puberty and ovulation. It has been linked to cardiovascular disease too. In addition, BPA has a negative effect on the environment

Products that are BPA-free do not contain any traces of Bisphenol-A. As concerns regarding the safety of BPA and its ability to leach into foods and beverages have grown, many manufacturers have committed to making BPA-free products.

Keep in mind, though, that not all BPA-free products are food-safe. This designation merely indicates that an item doesn’t contain that particular chemical. Lower-quality plastic containers may still contain Bisphenol-S (BPS) or Bisphenol-F (PSF), which are similar to BPA and carry many of the same potential risks. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to choose BPA-free insulated water bottles and food storage containers made primarily from steel and borosilicate glass.
