A mezcalita is a margarita that uses mezcal in addition to tequila; we think it’s even better than the classic. Mezcal’s smokiness mingles with lime wonderfully, particularly in this frozen version, which is spiced with fresh jalapeño. A salty rim is optional but highly recommended. Our book, Host, provides the recipe:
The Spicy Mezcalita
makes two drinks
- 3 ounces tequila
- 11⁄2 ounces mezcal
- 2 ounces Cointreau
- 2 ounces fresh lime juice
- 2 slices fresh jalapeño, plus 2 slices for garnish
- 2 lime wheels, for garnish
In a blender, combine the tequila, mezcal, Cointreau, lime juice and jalapeño slices. Fill with ice and blend on high until smooth. Pour into rocks glasses and serve, garnished with the remaining jalapeño and lime wheel.
