Negroni Sbagliato

Negroni Sbagliato

The legend of the Negroni Sbagliato starts with an apprentice at a bar in Milan, who mistakenly placed a bottle of prosecco where gin was supposed to go. A busy bartender accidentally grabbed the bubbles and, in a rush, added it to a Negroni instead of gin. The result? A sparkling low-alcohol aperitivo that's ideal for late afternoon sipping.

Sbagliato actually means "mistake" in Italian, but we'd say this was one happy, tasty accident. Just like a Negroni, the process to make this cocktail is incredibly simple. Add equal parts Campari and sweet vermouth to a rocks glass filled with ice. Stir for 5 seconds then top with prosecco. Garnish with a strip of orange, and get ready to happy hour the Italian way.

Negroni Sbagliato
Makes two cocktails

  • 2 shots Campari
  • 2 shots sweet vermouth (we prefer Antica Carpano or Italian red vermouths)
  • Prosecco
  • 2 strips of orange zest (for garnish)
  1. Divide the Campari and sweet vermouth between two rocks glasses filled with ice.
  2. Stir for 5 seconds. Top with prosecco to fill.
  3. Garnish with orange zest.
